- The name Kajol (pronounced [kaːdʒɔːl] or with the full name Kajol Devgan (née Mukerjee) born August 5, 1974, is an Indian actress who is known in Hindi cinema. The figure of Kajol cannot be separated from the film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai which became a very familiar film in film lovers in Indonesia while starring with another famous actor, Shah Rukh Khan. Kajol was one of the most successful actresses of the 1990s. Kajol has received several awards, including six Filmfare Awards. In 2011, Kajol was awarded the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian honor in India.

Kajol was born into the Mukherjee-Samarth family. His father Shomu Mukherjee is a filmmaker, while his mother Tanuja and younger sister Tanishaa Mukerji are actors. After debuting in 1992 with the drama film Bekhudi, which was declared a box office flop, Kajol decided to drop out of her education. He had his first success with the thriller Baazigar (1993), and rose to fame in 1995 after his two films, Karan Arjun and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, became the highest-grossing Indian film of the year. Kajol followed this with a string of commercial successes, including the suspense films Gupt: The Hidden Truth (1997) and Dushman (1998), the romantic comedies Minsara Kanavu (1997), Ishq (1997), Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya (1998), and Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha (1998), and the youth drama film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998).

After a career setback in 1999 and early 2001, Kajol found success again with her role as a chatty Punjabi woman in the family film Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham... (2001), and this was followed by taking a five-year hiatus; after these times, Kajol chose to limit her career in the film industry. In 2006, having retired from her acting career, Kajol was chosen by Yash Raj Films to play the role of a blind woman in the terrorism thriller Fanaa. The film Fanaa is a success. Kajol followed this with a string of other successes, including My Name Is Khan (2010), Dilwale (2015), Velaiilla Pattadhari 2 (2017), and Tanhaji (2020), and critical acclaim for her roles in U Me Aur Hum (2008) and We Are Family (2010). Tanhaji became the biggest financial success of his career.

Apart from her acting career, Kajol is involved in several campaigns and philanthropic activities related to children and women. He has also participated in a number of stage shows and television shows, and has been a voice actor for several films. He married in 1999 with actor Ajay Devgn, and was blessed with two children.
