Kareena Kapoor Khan (pronounced [kəˈriːna kəˈpuːr]; née Kapoor), was born at 21 September 1980 in Bombay (now Mumbai) is an Indian actress who appears in Hindi films. She is a daughter of actors Randhir Kapoor and Babita, and the younger sister of actress Karisma Kapoor. Karina Kapoor has portrayed various characters in several film genres. Ranging from romantic comedies to crime dramas. Karina Kapoor has received several awards, including six Filmfare Awards, and is one of Bollywood's highest-paid actresses.

After making her acting debut in 2000 in Refugee, Karina Kapoor established herself with roles in the drama Aśoka and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001). Her career was followed by a string of commercial failures and negative reviews for her recurring roles. Her appearance of the opposite sex as a sex worker in the play Chameli marked a turning point in her career. She received critical acclaim for her portrayal of a riot victim in the 2004 drama Dev and the character based on William Shakespeare's heroine Desdemona in the 2006 crime film Omkara. Karina Kapoor (often referred to as 'Bebo') is the youngest daughter of Randhir Kapoor and Babita (née Shivdasani); her older sister Karisma is also an actress. He is the paternal grandson of actor and filmmaker Raj Kapoor, maternal grandson of actor Hari Shivdasani, and great-grandson of filmmaker Prithviraj Kapoor. Actor Rishi Kapoor is his uncle, and his son, actor Ranbir Kapoor, is his cousin. According to Kapoor, the name "Kareena" came from the book Anna Karenina which her mother read to her while she was pregnant. He is of Punjabi Hindu descent on his father's side, and on his mother's side he is of Sindhi and English Hindu descent.

Describing himself as a spoiled brat, Kapoor's exposure to films from a young age piqued his interest in acting; he is heavily inspired by the work of actresses Nargis and Meena Kumari. Despite her family background, her father disapproved of women entering films because he believed it went against the traditional maternal duties and responsibilities of women in the family. This caused conflict between her parents and they lived separately before reconciling in October 2007. She was raised by her mother, who worked several jobs to support her daughter until Karisma made her debut as an actress in 1991. Despite her father's frequent absences during her childhood, Kapoor said that her father played an important role in his life.

Karina Kapoor attended Jamnabai Narsee School in Mumbai, followed by Welham Girls' School in Dehradun. He attended the institution primarily to satisfy his mother, though later admitted he loved the experience. According to Kapoor, he had no interest in academics despite getting good grades in all his classes except math. After graduating from Welham, he returned to Mumbai and studied commerce for two years at Mithibai University. Kapoor then signed up for a three-month summer course in microcomputers at Harvard Summer School in the United States. He later developed an interest in law, and enrolled at Government Law College, Mumbai; during this period, he developed a lifelong passion for reading. However, after completing his freshman year, he decided to pursue his interest in acting, though later regretted not completing his education. He began to practice at the children's institute.
